License information

zkanji is free! (But read the fine print too.)

About zkanji.

You can also modify and/or use the whole or parts of the code in your own projects and do anything else that is permitted by the CDDL.

For developers: In case you would like to use the source code of zkanji, please consider that the CDDL is NOT compatible with the GPL. About JMdict, KANJIDIC and the RADKFILE.

This software package (zkanji and one of its datafiles) uses a compilation of JMdict, KANJIDIC and RADKFILE. The compilation holds the original data in an accessible binary format for zkanji.

The original files are the property of the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group at Monash University, and are used in conformance with the Group's license. Please read and conform to this license if you distribute the dictionary datafile (zdict.zkj and English.zkj) included with zkanji.

About the Tanaka Corpus.

The optional example sentences in zkanji were taken from the Tanaka Corpus, which is released under the Creative Commons CC-BY license.

About the stroke order database.

Since v0.5 zkanji has handwriting recognition functionality with data previously based on the Taka database, but now superseeded by my own. This file is currently not under a free license. In case you'd like to use it in your own program, contact me beforehand to discuss the details.

What you can and cannot do.

  1. You can only alter and/or distribute the main data file (zdict.zkj and English.zkj), when you give credit to the original authors of KANJIDIC, JMdict and RADKFILE, and distribute it under the same license as that of KANJIDIC, JMdict and RADKFILE.
  2. You have to comply to the license of KANJIDIC, JMdict and RADKFILE.
  3. You can use and distribute the stroke order database with zkanji. Please contact me in case you would like to use the stroke order diagrams in another program, as it is not under a free license.
  4. You must mention my name as the original author among the credits of your program if you use anything from zkanji. Please read the text of the CDDL for details.
